Subject Highly Energy-Efficient Multi-Stage CO2 Capture Process (Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology, Yong-ki Park)
Name KCRC Date 2015-01-27 Hit 922

□ Overview

• Heat of adsorption emitted when the sorbent working at the higher temperature absorbs CO2 is used for heat of desorption needed to regenerate CO2 from the sorbent. (Energy recovery 50%)

□ Background

• Dry sorbent CO2 capture process is composed of CO2 adsorption step on dry sorbents and CO2 desorption and separation step from the sorbents.
• Temperature swing process composed of a fluidized bed adsorber and desorber is favorable for large CO2 emitting facilities like power plants and cement factories, because scale-up of this process is easy.

□ Technical Features

• This energy exchangeable dry sorbent CO2 capture technology is a multi-stage capture technology using more than 2 dry sorbents whose adsorption and desorption temperatures are different from each other.
• Heat of adsorption emitted when the sorbent working at the higher temperature absorbs CO2 is used for heat of desorption needed to regenerate CO2 from the sorbent.

□ Applications

• Large CO2 emitting facilities like coal fired power plants, steelworks, cement factories
